Azzinaro visits Island standout

During the Brooks and Bellotti years it seemed that the Oregon coaching staff recruited heavily in the Pacific Islands with great success. Chip Kelly and his staff have also experienced recent success in Hawaii landing two talented players in 2010 in Marcus Mariota and Lake Koa Kai. Thursday defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro visited the island of Oahu to check in on yet another Duck target. Duck Sports Authority caught up with Deforest Buckner a 6-foot-7, 230 pound defensive end from Punahou H.S. to hear what he had to say about the Ducks and his visit from coach Azz.

"I talked to coach Azz. He came down the day before yesterday to visit me at my school," said Buckner. "We were talking about my visit and we are thinking about sometime next month after my last regular season game."

Buckner's last regular season game is on Thursday October 27th against Mariota's alma mater St. Louis H.S. That would set up a good opportunity for Buckner to visit Eugene the weekend of the 29th for the Ducks game against Washington State if they can work out the details.

The Rivals four-star defensive end has played both defensive end and linebacker which leaves him well prepared for the type of system the Ducks run and how Azzinaro intends to use him.

"He was telling me what position he seen me playing at next year. A hybrid D end, linebacker like a drop D end. I would drop back on like first and second downs and then rush third and fourth," he explained.
