OVERVIEW

It was a pleasant surprise walking into Reser Stadium this afternoon and seeing officials strolling down the player's ramp, signifying a scrimmage was in the works.  What unfolded was a lack-luster and error filled hour and a half.

Defensively the black shirts looked ready to play while their offensive foes were anything but. Fumbles, dropped balls and penalties were the theme of the day from the guys in white. Cody Vaz led the 2nd team offense down the field only to see two passes dropped in the end zone. Result: Romaine field goal.

On the defensive front alone those sitting out included: Mana Tuivailala, Blake Harrah, Desmond Collins, Rudolf Fifita, Dominic Glover and Brandon Bennett. Strangely enough, the defensive front seemed to hold together fairly well, allowing a respectable 126 yards on 30 carries.

One positive was the play of place kicker Trevor Romaine who knocked all four attempts through the uprights (34, 35, 40, 43).  The importance of putting points on the board is often understated and hopefully today was more of what we'll see from the scholarship freshman.
