High hopes for Hog D

Arkansas' defense will be better in 2011...not that they were bad in 2010, finishing fifth in total defense out of 12 teams.

While the pass defense was in the upper half of the conference, the run defense was 10th-best in the league. Much of that can be attributed to struggles in a few games.

Georgia had 139 yards, Texas A&M only had 112, Vanderbilt had 117, South Carolina had 105, LSU had 100 . Aside from the Alabama game (227 rushing yards on Arkansas), it was a few teams with very good running quarterbacks who hurt the Hogs' average.

Cam Newton had his breakout game as Auburn rushed for 330 on the Hogs. Jeremiah Masoli guided Ole Miss to 197 yards. It took 70 rushes, but Chris Relf grinded Mississippi State to 262 yards. In the bowl game, the Hogs faced another great running QB in Terrell Pryor, who helped the Buckeyes to 225 rushing yards.
