Oregon visits Waco RB

The Oregon coaching staff has had remarkable success recruiting players from Texas, including the Heisman backfield duo of Darron Thomas and LaMichael James, so it should come to no surprise that running backs coach Gary Campbell is combing the Lone Star state in hope of unearthing another playmaker. Duck Sports Authority had the ability to catch up with one of these emerging offensive talents.

Enter Waco do-everything running back, Darrell Harris. Harris, a 5'10" 185-pound junior, collected a conference-leading 1,353 yards on 184 carries and was a standout punt-returner and cornerback. Oregon has shown they value players who can be threats in multiple facets of the game and Darrell Harris further reinforces that trend.

"I can play multiple positions" explained Harris. "I play running back but I can play cornerback and wide receiver too. I'm just a playmaker; I'm elusive and hard to tackle."

Harris seems to fit the mold of what Gary Campbell likes in his players and the interest appears to be mutual. DSA discovered one of the Oregon coaches had made the trek to Waco to meet with Waco Lions head coach, Danny Ramsey, to discuss his star athlete.

"Coach Campbell came down and had a visit with my coach" said Harris. [The visit] went pretty good, my coach said they like me and that I had everything they wanted but I just needed to get a step faster"

Even though summer break is approach, the Waco star plans on working hard this off-season to improve certain aspects of his game.

"Since I had surgery on my knee, I'm just working on getting faster and bigger" explain Harris.

Harris is rehabbing from a meniscus scope but it appears his recovery is going smooth as he is already sharpening his abilities in hopes of taking things to the next level.

The Ducks explosion on the national scene has caught the eyes of athletes across the nation and their recent success and controversial attire is something that Harris has noted.

Harris added, "I like that they're a winning school and they have some pretty nice uniforms too."

Darrell Harris mentioned that he would like to take a visit up to Eugene sometime soon but will continue to focus on his upcoming SAT tests. Ducks Sports Authority will continue to bring you updates from Darrell Harris along with the other rising prep stars across the country.
