State stunned by Florida Atlantic, 61-59

STARKVILLE, Miss., - The inevitable finally became a reality for Mississippi State on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs had survived on a wing and a prayer through its first four contests but were unable to keep its win streak intact falling to Florida Atlantic 61-59 in the waning moments.

"You never want to think about all the close games that we've had and that one game we may not come out on the winning side," said MSU senior guard Ravern Johnson. "But it happened tonight."

MSU led by as many as 13 points in the first half but went 0-for-6 from behind the arc in the second half after the Owls switched into a zone defense.

"Their zone was really spread out," Johnson said. "Basically we had to make quick decisions and most of the decisions that we made weren't the right decisions at the time. We had a lot of bad shots taken and they got out in transition and scored a lot of buckets out of their offense."

Johnson may have been the Bulldog effected the most by the FAU zone defense. Johnson poured in 14 points in the first half but was limited to only four in the second when the Owls made the switch to the zone.
