Fresno State faces toughest test against Boise State

After a heart breaking 35-34 loss last Saturday night against Nevaad at Bulldog Stadium, the Bulldogs now must travel to the blue turf of Boise,Idaho to face thier toughest challenege of the year.

Fresno State will need to play an all around great game on both sides of the ball if they hope to upset the fourth ranked team in the nation.

Fresno State: The Bulldogs have scroed over 30 points in seven straight games and are 23rd in the nation averaging 34 points per game. Sophmore Robbie Rouse has rusherd for over 100 yard in four consecutive games including back to back 200 yard rushing games. Ryan Colburn who has played well all season will need to limit the turnovers if the Bulldogs hope to have a chance this Friday.

Boise State:The Broncos are the number two scoring team in the nation averaging 47 points per game. They have scored over 40 points in six consecutive games. Quarterback Kellen Moore is a heisman trophy candidate throwing for 2588 yards and 24 touchdowns so far this season. Boise also has great running backs in Doug Martin who has 866 yards and eight touchdowns and Jeremy Avery who can also use his speed to get in the endzone. Finnally their receivers Titus Young and Austin Pettis are two players who may have a great game against Fresno States young secondary.

Fresno State: The Bulldogs will have to play their best defensive game this Friday if they hope to have any chance against Boise State. Fresno State gives up 28 points per game which could easily be met by Boise States offense. The Bulldogs did do a great job against Nevadas rushing attck and their offense holding Nevada to 416 yards which was 150 yards below thier average. They have to do a better job not allowing the big plays that have killed them all season long. Look for Chris Carter, Logan Harrell, and Chris Lewis to get pressure on Kellen Moore to try and slow him down.

Boise State: The Broncos have the seocnd best defense in the nation giving up only 12 points per game. With Fresno STate averaging over 34 points a game something will have to give. Fresno State head coach at Hill believs this may be the hardest defensive line the the Bullodgs will play all season including better than the one from SEC Ole Miss. Shea McClellin is a player to watch as he leads the Broncos with six sacks this season. Boise also has nine interceptions as a team which could prove to be vital as Ryan Colburn has a tendency to throw picks in big games.

Special Teams:

Fresno Sate: The Bulldogs who are doing great this season at blocking field goals and kicks, will have to try and get a big game from their kick blcoking department. The Bulldogs have had trouble not giving up the big punt and kickoff returns. They will have to try and clear this up if they want to stop Boise States return game which could be deadly.

Boise State: The Broncos return game is great, they have an avergae of 23 yards a return and have returend one punt so far this year. Fresno States return defense has had trouble over the season and this could be a big advantage for Boise State.

Other: The Bulldogs have beaten the Broncos once in their last nine meetings that was in 2005 in Bulldog Stadium. Boise Satte has never lost to the Bulldogs on the Blue turf, in fact they have not lost to a WAC school at home over the past five years. They have won a NCAA leading 23 games inva row. The weather could play a factor as well as they are expecting rain and a high in the 40's.
