Bulldogs learning to cope with loss

Mississippi State's bye week was supposed to give the team time to heal from the bumps and bruises caused by nine straight games of college football.

But this week the Bulldogs are hurting more than ever. The team is trying to cope with the loss of sophomore defensive end Nick Bell, who lost his battle with cancer Tuesday afternoon.

"Right now our team is going through a tough time with this situation that you hope no team ever has to go through," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "It's tough to grip for young people to deal with the reality of the situation that we are dealing with. Right now we are trying to keep our team focused and in a routine for them in their lives so they can stay as normal as possible."

The Bulldogs have still been holding its regularly scheduled practice routine this week although the practices have not been mandatory. Mullen feels that keeping the team together at practice as well as off the field builds a support system to help his players as they mourn the loss of one of their own.
