Johnson injured, Holliman updates status

Ole Miss commitments Gerrod Holliman and Andrew Johnson's Miami (Southridge), Fla. team improved to 7-1 on the season with a win over Killian last week. Holliman, a safety, picked off his ninth pass of the year and added "about six tackles."

Holliman and Johnson committed to Ole Miss in early July, although both have continued to entertain offers from other schools as the pair most recently visited Louisville for Cardinals' October 15th game against Cincinnati. The high school teammates plan to visit West Virginia on November 13 and will take their official visit to Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl.

In addition to Ole Miss, Holliman is "really liking Oregon, Louisville, West Virginia, and Cincinnati."

Oregon has joined the Big East schools as a potential target after the Ducks have shown considerable interest in recent weeks.

Holliman will stay committed to Ole Miss but noted his growing interest in Oregon, the newest team that has Holliman's attention.

"I'm going to wait it out for a little bit," Holliman said. "I'm going to stay committed to Ole Miss, and I think I'm going to take my visits and see how it goes from there."

Southridge had a rare Saturday game against Killian as Johnson and Holliman both missed Ole Miss' most recent contest against Auburn.

"I didn't even get to see them," Holliman said of Ole Miss' new alternate gray jerseys. "They started playing when we were on our way to the park."

JOHNSON INJURED Johnson suffered the concussion as he performed his special teams duties. Johnson was placed in a neck brace and taken off the field on a stretcher before he was taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

"He suffered a slight concussion. They put a neck brace on him, but that was just to keep his head safe," Holliman said of his teammate. "He's up walking around now and is out of the hospital already.

"I didn't even see the hit. It wasn't even really a big hit because no one heard it…. He overworked himself for that game and was trying to do too much and I guess he got hit off guard or something as he tried to hit someone."

Johnson is expected to sit out for Southridge's next game against Coral Reef. Southridge can clinch a playoff spot with a victory. Southridge's final regular season game is against Carol City on November 12.
