Davis is taking his time
Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson wide receiver Andre Davis has remained focus on the season at hand, spending less time on his recruitment in the last couple of months. The 2011 standout has remained high on the radar for some of the top programs in the country. Texas Tech still finds themselves firmly in the mix.
"I've been taking it easy on the recruiting thing lately, just trying to focus on my season and my team right now," Davis said. "I'm still hearing from programs like Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Rutgers, and Texas Tech. You could say those are the leaders right now."
The Red Raiders have remained in the conversation mostly due to the efforts of running backs coach Chad Scott.
"I talk to Coach Scott out there pretty often. He's a cool guy and we've got a really good relationship. He keeps it pretty professional, but he also makes it kind of a friendly relationship. He's down-to-earth and straight-up about everything. I like that a lot about him."
Davis hasn't taken any visits so far this fall and he's not likely to take any until after the season has come to an end. He did, however, leave the door open for a few potential visits before football comes to a close.
"I'm not sure right now when I'll be taking any officials. I'm probably going to take a few after the season is over, but I might get one or two in before the year is over," he said. "It just depends on what I can fit in with my schedule. I'd say that those five schools I mentioned have a pretty good chance of being the ones I take an official visit to see. I think there is a really good chance that I'll go see Texas Tech and Rutgers for sure. We'll see how it all works out, though."
As with the planning of official visits, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect has no intentions of rushing through the recruiting process to reach a decision. With a timetable that has no end other than National Signing Day, Davis is going to explore all options before making a commitment.
"It will probably be closer to singing day. I definitely wanted to be able to step away from football for a minute and think about the options I had, so a decision more-than-likely won't come until after I take a few visits, and those are probably not happening until after my season is over."
Aside from Texas Tech, Davis currently holds offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Kansas, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, Purdue Rutgers, South Florida, and West Virginia among others.
