Brewer set to return to action on Friday

Austin (Texas) Lake Travis quarterback Michael Brewer has missed the past four weeks due to a shoulder injury sustained early in his senior season. After using the Cavaliers' open date as an extra weekend to rest, the 2011 Texas Tech commit is set to return to action this Friday.

"Yes, sir. I'm back this week," Brewer said. "I've just been rehabbing every day for the past four weeks, this will be exactly five weeks since I've played. I'm definitely ready to go. I feel like I'm as close to one hundred percent as I'm going to get. I got to practice a little bit last week and had some good days. I was pretty anxious to get back out on the field with the team. Everything went smooth, and we had another good practice today so we're moving forward. I'm ready to get going again on Friday."

"I think I've given it as much time as I could. I probably could have played in the last game, but it might have not been the greatest idea to do so. I'm glad that I sat out last week because I feel that much better now and I feel like I'll be good to go this week."

Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, they saw their 48-game winning streak come to an end a few weeks ago against Aledo. Something Brewer mentioned as being one of the hardest things he's ever had to stand by and watch.

"That was the absolute worst thing I've had to do since I've been playing sports. To sit there for four games and watch my team, the guys I've been playing with since elementary, play without me was tough. Having to just sit on the sidelines and know there's nothing I could do about anything was hard to do," he said. "Especially during that Aledo game. Losing 14-10 and knowing that I could have had an impact on the game was a hard one to get over. It was really difficult, but it's made me that much hungrier to get back out on the field and take advantage of the time I have left here."

In the midst of his rehabilitation, Brewer has stayed in contact with the staff in Lubbock. The 2011 standout said he speaks with Neal Brown and Sonny Cumbie "about once a week." After also making his official visit to the program a few weeks ago for the Texas game, the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder is looking to make another trip to the West Texas later this season.

"Right now I'm trying to get the whole family to come visit when we play Missouri. That's the plan," he said. "I'm not sure if it will work out or not, but that's something I'm hoping to do. That's all I've got scheduled for the rest of the fall, but nothing is official yet."

Brewer committed to Texas Tech in March over offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, East Carolina, Kansas, Rice, Tennessee, Texas, and Tulsa.
