The right choice for Warren

Not that Rufus Warren was having any inkling of looking elsewhere for college but if he was those second thoughts were thrown out the window during Mississippi State's season opening 49-7 win over Memphis.

The three-star commitment saw the Bulldogs potent passing attack amass 373 yards through the air and how head coach Dan Mullen utilized the tight end in his offense.

"They have a great team and I love Mullen's offense," Warren said. "He gets everybody involved but when I got to the game I was shocked. I would love to play under Mullen because he uses his tight ends almost every possession on the o-line, as a fullback and I like being all over the field. I can fit in well with Mullen's offense and the way that he does things. The whole game day and being in the locker room with the players made me feel like I was at home. It felt good to be around their environment. I think I made a great choice in going to State."

The 6-foot-5, 238-pounder committed to MSU following the Bulldogs' three-day camp in mid-June and the relationship between the two is still continuing to grow.

"Since the coaches have been able to call they've been calling and I call them," Warren said. "They are excited and I am very excited to go to State. They can't wait to see me in pads. Coach Melvin Smith came to our game Friday night. My mom said that he talked to her and told her I looked good in pads and I showed him that I can block. That's mostly what they've been looking at because they know I can catch. He said he loved the way that I am aggressive and come off the ball. I'm excited to show them what I've got when I put on that maroon and white at State."

Warren has primarily been used on offense this season at Gentry but has also seen time on the other side of the ball as a rush end in passing situations. He has hauled in six passes for 86 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion offensively while recording four tackles, a sack and six hurries on defense.
