Bumphis building off the opener
In his first two season openers at Mississippi State, Chad Bumphis has been a superstar.
The heralded high school recruit has hauled in six catches for 122 yards and four touchdowns between the two yearly debuts. The successful start in 2009 led to a monster season and Bumphis hopes his showing in the Memphis game is just a sign of things to come.
"It's just a confidence boost," Bumphis said. "It helps your confidence off to start the year with a good game."
Bumphis grabbed four balls for 100 yards and two scores this past weekend in the Bulldogs 49-7 win over Memphis. He also returned four punts for 49 yards.
"It was fun and a great time," Bumphis said. "I was just ready to go out and see what we had and hit somebody other than our own teammates."
The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder was MSU's leading receiver as a true freshman a year ago finishing the year with 32 catches for 375 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed six times for 73 yards and another score while adding 428 return yards playing in all 12 games earning six starts.
