Neuheisel happy with progress

Practice number four showcased outstanding performances by the running backs on offense and the defensive backs also showcased their skills. If this team gets offensive line play on Saturday's they will be a good football team. They definitely have weapons on the offensive side of the ball.

It was good to see Brandon Sermons out there yesterday walking around pretty good. He said he will return to action in two weeks. We also heard that Stan Hasiak will rejoin the team in two weeks and will be to practice while contributing on the scout team.

As is customary, UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel met with media to discuss and answer questions on his Bruin football team.

Neuheisel: "It was a good day. Obviously the day started off with a bad deal because of we found out that Datone Jones has to have surgery. That will be on Friday. That will be the fifth metatarsal. They will put the screw into the foot and hopefully we will get him back as soon as it is possible. When he is healthy and ready, but he's such a great kid. Such a great citizen on our team and leader on our team. We're going to miss him, but the guys are going to rally for him and be ready to go. That's the down side."

"The good side is we got another good practice in. The first practice offensively we were nowhere near where we needed to be concentration wise, but the second practice and it is just a indication of what people can do to an offense by bringing the energy.

"I thought Ricky Marvray and Johnathan Franklin brought that kind of energy and it increased the tempo of the offense. The first practice was dominated by the energy of the defense. Rahim Moore and company, Akeem Ayers, those guys are bringing it and offensively we have to match that and if we will, we will be a good team because we certainly have some leadership of how to do it."
