Bulldogs don shoulder pads
Mississippi State added shoulder pads to their practice attire Friday afternoon working for two hours in a split session group.
53 Bulldogs consisting of current starters and newcomers underwent more of a physical practice than the previous two. Head coach Dan Mullen took advantage of the day adding in some more running plays to the offense.
"The first day in shoulder pads we were able to install more of the base run plays," Mullen said. "We were able to get a little more run game in today. Really from this point out it will be a little bit more balanced as we go throughout training camp with our run and pass."
MSU has yet to go full contact and Mullen complimented his squad on their ability to practice the right way only wearing some of their protective equipment.
"Our guys are learning," Mullen said. "We didn't see a lot of guys out here today on the ground. When we're not in full pads we don't want to see guys on the ground. We're learning how to practice and we're much better at that than we have been in the past that's for sure."
One thing Mullen was a little displeased with was the way his team responded to the sweltering afternoon heat.
