Tupelo (Miss.) DL focusing on football

Earlier this month, P.J. Jones told RebelGrove.com that Ole Miss was his leading candidate. The Tupelo, Miss., defensive end added his commitment to a certain school was looming.

Then, July 17, Jones told Rebel Grove he would let his recruitment play out "a little more", but he said his commitment was "getting close," while he was in Oxford for the Ole Miss Senior Camp.

Wednesday, Jones cited the beginning of two-a-days as the reason for shifting his focus from recruiting. The once-looming decision now has no timetable.

"I haven't given it thought," Jones said of a commitment decision. "I pushed the college stuff to the side, if you want the honest truth."

The Golden Wave and football season will have much of Jones' attention in the near future. And at least some suspense has re-appeared around Jones' recruitment. Instead of Ole Miss being a clear favorite, the Rebels are now grouped in a top three.

"I really don't have one," Jones said in terms of current leader. "I like (Mississippi) State, Ole Miss, and UCLA. UCLA came to see me not long ago."

Recently, Jones has also heard from Tennessee, who has already offered, and LSU. The Tigers aren't one of the nine schools to offer Jones, so far.

As Jones cooled off after a hot, humid, Mississippi football practice, he complemented Ole Miss while re-affirming that his mind is open.

"I'm still high on Ole Miss. I love (defensive coordinator) Tyrone Nix, he can send players to the NFL," Jones noted. "But, then again, there's some other great coaches out there."
