Virges hopes to start strong at State
Mississippi State signee Curtis Virges admits he has no idea how strong he actually is. that
But it was evident April 17th that he was strong enough to claim the 5A State Championship in the 308-pound weight class with a total combined weight of 1,545 pounds.
"Truly, I don't know how strong I am because it goes up each time," Virges said. "Sometimes I amaze myself. When I went and did what I did, I didn't really train or lift weight for it."
What the 6-foot-3, 296-pounder did was squat 550-pounds, bench 370-pounds and deadlift 625-pounds at the event.
"I tried to get a (deadlift) record but I hitched with it," Virges said. "That was pretty heavy. 670 is a lot of weight. I picked it up and everything but when I locked it out I hitched and they didn't give it to me."
Virges has long since shattered all of West Point's school records, he did that as just a sophomore.
