Carmon content at Mississippi State

James Carmon arrived at Mississippi State in January at 6-foot-7, 360-pounds.

The mammoth defensive tackle has already shed down to 335-pounds and plans to be at 320 before fall camp begins. With his size, Carmon is one player you simply can't miss but if you ask him, he's simply content to be a roleplayer.

"Really I'm just playing my role right now," Carmon said. "I'm not trying to be more than James Carmon. I'm not trying to impress. I'm just trying to do my role so that Mississippi State can be on top. If they ask me to play two plays ever series then that's what I'm going to do."

Carmon was originally set to graduate from Gulf Coast Community College in May but sped up the process by adding extra classes so that he could go through spring practice at the college of his choice.

"Man it helped me so much getting here in January," Carmon said. "At first I wasn't supposed to get here but I pushed through it after they told me what I needed to do. I definitely needed to get here in January."

Carmon chose Mississippi State one day following his official visit to the Egg Bowl over offers from Coastal Carolina, Memphis, Ole Miss, South Florida, Southern Miss and Tennessee.
