Payne, Williams shine in practice

BERKELEY-After ramping up for April 17th's open practice with three straight full-pad practices complete with referees, the Cal football team pulled back today, practicing only in shells. But, as has been the case of late, the defense remained stout.

"They're getting more comfortable with what we're doing, so it's allowing them to play a little bit faster," said defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. "They seem like a fairly hungry group."
