Izzo expects Lucas back for senior year

INDIANAPOLIS - Kalin Lucas has not completely ruled out the possibility of putting his name in the NBA Draft despite being on the shelf for the next four to six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles suffered in the first half of Michigan State's Sweet Sixteen win over Maryland.

Lucas did not say he was leaning one way or another. But he did say that he and his family would sit down with Spartan coach Tom Izzo to discuss his future.

"To be honest I do not know if I am going to do it or I am going to come back," said Lucas. "Me and coach are going to sit down and probably discuss that. But I am not leaning toward that. I don't know yet."

Izzo does not see how Lucas can declare for the draft when he has six months of rehab ahead of him after the surgery he had last Tuesday.

"I will do some checking with my people in the NBA if Kalin's parents want to do that," explained Izzo. "The problem with Kalin is that he has four to six months of rehab. We talked about it briefly, and I think in his mind he is set on coming back. But I owe it to him to talk to some people. That will be the last thing that we do in a week or three days when I get back … I am going to do it the right way to do it for him. I am going to call some people and see what kind of draft it is for the point guards and all of those things."
