Waters has big plans as a Husky

Darius Waters is one of three Lakes High School standouts committed to Washington for 2010. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound playmaker was with fellow Lancers Jamall Kearse and Sione Potoae at UW this weekend and is excited about playing with them again as Huskies.

"It's going to be great playing with them all over against just like high school," he explained. "It's also nice to know I have some close friends the moment I arrive on campus."

Waters also become friends with other recruits on the trip and enjoyed the whole experience.

"The trip was really fun," said Waters. "The basketball game might have been the highlight and I was shocked how badly they beat Cal. It was also good to just meet all of the players and hang out. I knew most of the commits on the trip and got to meet the others I didn't know from out of state. They were all cool and we all became friends."

Waters is just one of the many 2010 recruits that make up perhaps the best recruiting class in UW's history. They all know how special this class could be in building towards the future and building a powerhouse program.

"We talked a lot about the future and how good this recruiting class can be," said Waters. "We want to win a Rose Bowl and even something more, and I think we can do it."

On the trip all of the future Huskies in attendance found out they had become two more players strong when head coach Steve Sarkisian announced that Gregory Ducre and Hau'oli Jamora had committed on the trip.

"When coach Sarkisian announced they committed on the trip everyone got really loud and crazy. We were all excited."

In high school Waters played primarily defense end and tight end, now he's prepared to make the move to linebacker.

"They want me to play strong-side linebacker and I think I can do it. There will be some learning since I played defensive end in high school. The biggest thing will be picking up pass coverages, but I look forward to the challenge."

Next is a lot of hard work for Waters as he prepares for college.

"Now I'm just going to work out and once I get their plan after signing day I will really get to work. In the mean time I'n going to run a lot and get into the best shape I can."
