Graham thrives on competition

Wheaton (Ill.) quarterback Taylor Graham grew up knowing about the Ohio State Buckeyes with a famous father who played at the Horseshoe a generation ago. But that didn't mean that the future Ohio State quarterback didn't have a couple of questions after committing to Ohio State in June and this weekend was the perfect chance to see everything one more time and get everything answered.

"It was great and I feel a lot more comfortable about it to not that I didn't before," Graham said. "It was good to finally meet some of the players here and talk with the coaches some more."

Every recruit seems to be looking for their own answers while they are on a visit and some of those questions may be around academics or others may want to know about student life Graham welcomed the chance to sit down with his future position coach and get right to the business of football.

"I really enjoyed sitting down with coach Siciliano and we talked in the meeting room for a little bit," Graham said. "We just talked about some football stuff and it was really good to hear the things they do on a daily routine. We got to watch practice and the way that he teaches the guys and it is really encouraging and I think we will be on the same page while I am here."

During the visit Graham had a chance to meet with most of the current players and several of the members of his recruiting class and potential recruiting class.

"I really got to know Kenny Guiton pretty well and he is a good guy," Graham said. "And then I got to hang out with Ben Buchanan as well."

The recruit had a chance to play a bit of recruiter however with one of Ohio State's top targets.

"I was here with Matt James that big old lineman from St. X and he is a really nice guy when you get to know him," Graham said. "I thought he and I got to know each other pretty well."

And did Graham have a reason for selfishly trying to land the big offensive lineman?

"Of course, I have got to get him blocking my (rear)" Graham joked.

This weekend the Buckeyes had another player in that could be looked at as quarterback with Verlon Reed. Graham had a chance to spend a lot of time with the central Ohio prospect.

"Verlon is a really nice guy too but I don't really know how he is leaning," Graham said. "We didn't talk much about that but he and I hung out on Friday night after all the video games were all done and got to know him well."

And what happens if Reed picks the Buckeyes and battles with Graham for reps at quarterback?

"I have said all along that there is going to be competition everywhere especially at a great place like Ohio State because they have their choice of talent out there," Graham said. "That is just the way it is going to be and if he does play quarterback if he does come in here then of course I would love him as a teammate. But competition is competition and we will have to see what happens."

Now with the visit out of the way Graham knows what he has to focus on, especially after a season that ended prematurely to a knee injury.

"In the offseason I am trying to get bigger and faster and let my knee heal up," Graham said. "I decided (this year) not to play basketball so it could fully recover before I put some wear and tear on it."

Graham has the added advantage of working out with his father, an NFL-alum on as self-described Football 101 before heading to Columbus in the summer to carry the Buckeye torch.
