Rowell hearing from many schools

Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin has continued to advance in the state playoffs, so offensive lineman Artie Rowell has not been able to accomplish a lot on the recruiting trails.

It's still early, though, so there's no reason for the 6-foot-3, 280-pound offensive guard to worry.

Rowell has attended a game at Rutgers this year, and he also attended Maryland's game against Clemson. He said both trips went well, and he looks forward to hearing more from each school.

To date, Pitt is the only school that has extended an offer to Rowell.

"Yes, I've got the offer from Pitt," Rowell confirmed. "I went to a summer camp over there and I guess they liked what I saw. Coach Dave Wannstedt gave me a verbal offer and then on September 1 the written offer came in.

"I guess you could say Pitt is a favorite, but it's still early. I definitely want to go through the process. A lot of schools have told me they want to see my junior highlight tape before they offer, so that's really what they're waiting for."

Many of those schools, according to Rowell, hail from the Big Ten and Big East. Rutgers, Temple, Iowa and many others have shown an interest. Head coach Randy Edsall from UConn has also contacted Rowell, indicating that he has a high level of interest in the prospect.

Rowell said he feels good about his performance over the course of his junior campaign, and believes he will have a solid film to send out to colleges shortly.
