Jones post game Q&A

Georgia Tech A-back Roddy Jones and the whole Yellow Jacket team had a simple goal after the bowl loss to LSU last year, win the ACC Championship. Jones and his teammates are a step closer after clinching the ACC Coastal Division title with their 49-10 win over Duke. Jacketsonline caught up with Jones to talk about the season and the win over Duke.

What is it like being ACC Coastal Division champions?

"It is great and exciting. Everyone in there is excited right now. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work. We have been working hard ever since the last season ended and in the spring. After the LSU game, we have been working hard and this has been our goal and we put ourselves in a position to get our ultimate goal of winning the ACC Championship."

After what happened in Miami and having played those three games in 12 days, did you think you would have a chance to still win the ACC Coastal?

"Definitely, the Miami game was one loss, and it was a big loss at the time because it was a team in our division, but we still had games on our list and if we took care of our business hopefully the chips would fall our way. They ended up doing it and we took care of what we needed to take care of."

What was the moment between this year and last year, you recognized the entire team bought into what Coach Johnson was saying about that being the number one goal?

"I think ever since last year when we were kept out of the ACC Championship game. That was our goal last year and we might have surprised some people, but we were disappointed not getting to the ACC Championship game and winning the ACC. That was our goal in the entire offseason ever since the spring. The morning runs we did in the spring, spring practice and camp that has always been our goal. We focused on it and now we have a chance to accomplish it."

How much of a motivator was the LSU game and knowing what will happen if you don't come out ready to play?

"Definitely, they really showed us what we need to do to get to the level they are at. Their defense was a national championship defense, I do not care what anybody says. They really showed us how much harder we needed to work in the offseason and what we needed to do to get there. I think we have done a pretty good job of doing it, but we still need to get better and keep going so we can win the ACC."

Do you think the team was pressing at the beginning trying to win the ACC outright?

"I think offensively, they came out with some different looks and that threw some guys off. Once we settled down, I think the past couple games it took a little while to settle down, once we were settled it was the same old stuff. It comes down to us executing and once we are executing I feel like we can be pretty good."

How much confidence does it give you when the defense starts making stops?

"I gives us tons of confidence because we know when we get rolling we can score with anybody. When the defense gets stops, it gives us a chance to pull away. We just feel like when the defense is on and we are on, we can pretty much beat anybody."
