Series by series: UW's offense against Indiana

Offensively, Wisconsin was able to run the ball all over a shaky Indiana defense in Saturday's 31-28 win. By the end, both John Clay and Montee Ball rushed for over 100 yards and combined for three scores on the ground.

Today, takes a look back at every offensive possession for Wisconsin. The following is a series-by-series look back at Saturday's game.

First Quarter:

Drive No. 1: Started on UW 20 yard line following kickoff.
Plays: 3
Yards: 7
Result: 41-yard Brad Nortman punt.

Key play: Quarterback Scott Tolzien had Garrett Graham open for the first down, but threw behind him. Graham was unable to make the snag and UW was forced to punt.

Drive No. 2: Started on UW 23 yard line following kickoff. (7-0 Indiana)
Plays: 5
Yards: 77
Result: 18-yard Isaac Anderson touchdown reception. (7-7)

Key play: On the first play of the drive, Clay took the handoff up the middle, hurdled a defender and sprinted for 48 yards. Four plays later, Tolzien connected with Anderson for the score.

Drive No. 3: Started on UW 19 yard line following 42-yard Chris Hagerup punt.
Plays: 18
Yards: 72
Result: 26-yard Philip Welch field goal. (10-7)

Key play: UW had a first and goal from the IU one yard line, but instead of running the ball, Paul Chryst dialed up a play-action pass. The throw was tipped at the line and fell incomplete. Tolzien then tripped on second down and lost four yards. On third down, UW suffered a pass interference penalty and couldn't score from third and goal from the 20.

Second quarter:

Drive No. 4: Started on UW 19 yard line following Chris Maragos interception.
Plays: 10
Yards: 81
Result: One-yard Ball touchdown run. (17-7 UW)

Key play: On third and four, Tolzien found Nick Toon open on the sideline. He caught it and turned up field for a 33-yard gain.

Drive No. 5: Started on Indiana 47 yard line following 34-yard Hagerup punt.
Plays: 3
Yards: 2
Result: 45-yard Brad Nortman punt.

Key play: Tolzien had Graham wide open on first down and threw a good ball to him. Graham, though, was unable to bring it in. Then, on third down, Anderson dropped a perfect pass that would have moved the chains as well.

Drive No. 6: Started on Indiana 49 yard line following kickoff. (17-14 UW)
Plays: 6
Yards: 49
Result: 14-yard Clay touchdown run. (24-14 UW)

Key play: Clay dominated the drive with runs of 15, nine and 14 yards.

Third quarter:

Drive No. 7: Started on UW four yard line following Chris Borland interception.
Plays: 8
Yards: 37
Result: 45-yard Nortman punt.

Key play: The Badgers methodically moved the ball out past its own 40 yard line, but on third and one, Tolzien's pass to Graham was batted down. As a result, UW was forced to punt.

Drive No. 8: Started on UW 21 yard line following 36-yard Hagerup punt.
Plays: 4
Yards: 18
Result: 46-yard Nortman punt.

Key play: Ball showed what was to come in the fourth quarter when he started the drive with a bruising 11-yard run on first down.

Fourth quarter:

Drive No. 9: Started on own 22 yard line following kickoff. (24-21 UW)
Plays: 7
Yards: 78
Result: Three-yard Ball touchdown run. (31-21 UW)

Key play: Out near midfield and needing a score, Tolzien again found Toon for a 44-yard gain. Toon was wide open, caught the ball, stayed in bounds and turned up field for the big gain.

Drive No. 10: Started on UW 20 yard line following kickoff. (31-28 UW)
Plays: 9
Yards: 47

Key play: Knowing the Hoosiers only had two timeouts, UW just needed to pick up a couple of first downs in order to run the clock out. The biggest play of the game came on third and eight when Tolzien found Toon for 17 yards. The ball wasn't thrown that great, but Toon made the clutch catch that helped seal the win.
