Griffin takes in Mississippi State game
One of the most productive backs in Mississippi this fall has been New Augusta (Miss.) Perry Central athlete Nick Griffin. Griffin has been averaging over 160 yards rushing per game and has been a big reason for his team's 10-0 record. After having a more limited role in the offense as a junior, Griffin's success has surprised even him.
"I didn't know it was going to be like this," Griffin said. "I think I've been able to do this because of the offense. We have more balance this year. We can throw the ball which opens up the running game."
But it isn't just a one-man show at Perry Central. Griffin and his teammates have high hopes for the season and playoffs and think that they have the personnel to make a deep run.
"Some people are saying that this is the best team in school history so I think we can go pretty far," he said. "I just don't want to let anybody down."
Griffin's success has translated to some heavy recruitment as well. He holds offers from the likes of Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State. He has attended multiple games at nearby Southern Miss and this past weekend he took in Mississippi State's close game with Florida.
"It was great," he said of the game. "I loved it. The atmosphere was great and those fans were so loud."
Could Griffin see himself playing for the Bulldogs?
"I definitely could see myself there," he said. "They're an SEC team and I'd love to play in the SEC."
Griffin doesn't plan on taking any of his official visits until after the season is over with and in turn he is in no hurry to make a decision. He is happy with his current list of options but he wouldn't mind having two more schools return to the picture.
"I'm interested in Ole Miss and Auburn," he said. "They were both recruiting me before but I haven't heard much from them in a while. I'd like to get offers from those two."
This weekend Perry Central will play in its final regular season game before the playoffs and will attempt to keep its perfect season alive.
