Rocker cross-training the d-line

Tracy Rocker knows firsthand about the rigors of an SEC season.

The former Auburn great understands the importance of having a deep rotation in case injuries come, because, in the SEC, they will.

So to better prepare his player, the defensive line coach is not only repping a number of players, he's also working a select few at more than one spot.

Michael Goggans, Zach Clayton and Nosa Eguae have all spent time both at tackle and end during preseason camp. Not only does that improve the team's depth, it also increases the chances all three will see extended playing time this fall.

"I think it's very important in that you try to cross-train some guys," Rocker said. "As we get closer and closer, you have to narrow it down. We're just trying to make sure everyone understands what's going on, so if something happens - you prepare for the worst."

Clayton worked in both spots during the 2008 season, but the switch is a major change for Goggans.
