Four-star LB opens things back up

Many considered four-star linebacker LaDarius Owens' recruitment to be an instate battle between Alabama and Auburn.

But the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder Jess Lanier standout has opened things back up and is set for two out of state visits this week. Owens will visit both Clemson and Mississippi State to get a closer look at things outside of his home state.

"I've decided to open my recruitment back up and check out other places," Owens said. "I'm trying to go to as many camps as I can to get an up close and better look at how the coaches are while I am participating at camp. Friday I am going to Mississippi State to see how Coach (Carl) Torbush and those guys are working out. I'm still feeling out their new coaching staff so that's why I am going back this weekend to see how I like them."

Owens named a top five list in early June listing Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida State as his favorites. But he has since backed off some hoping to take one last look around before the end of the summer.

"I really wanted to give everybody a fair shot so that's why I opened everything back up," Owens said. "All I have been exposed to is the instate schools so now I am getting out of state a little bit and seeing how things are. I haven't been around some of the new coaching staffs on the defensive side of the ball at a lot of the schools that are recruiting me. I am just trying to get a feel for all of them right now."

When Owens returns home this weekend he could have an idea of where he wants to go from here as far as a decision is concerned.
