Kenny Irons leads loaded Tiger backfield

For six straight seasons, Auburn has fielded one of the SEC's top rushing attacks. In 2000, it was Rudi Johnson who powered his way to a league rushing title. From 2001-4, Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown tore through SEC defenses before becoming Top 5 NFL picks.

The mantle was passed to Kenny Irons in 2005 and the Dacula, Ga., native didn't disappoint, racking up 1,293 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged an impressive 147.7 yards over the last six regular season games including 218 at LSU and 179 at Georgia.

Irons returns in 2006 as a first-team All-SEC selection and legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. But all the accolades haven't kept the senior from working extra hard during the offseason to be even better this season.

"Kenny has worked real hard," said running backs coach Eddie Gran. "Explosion-wise, I think he's as good as the guys that we've had here. He's got great explosion and uses his leverage well. He'll run through people or around people. If he continues to improve he should be very successful helping this team win football games this year."
