Perkins' star starts to shine
After what happened in the 2009 Egg Bowl, Ole Miss did their homework in game planning to stop Mississippi State's read option attack by quarterback Chris Relf and running back Vick Ballard.
But the Rebels did not account for the wild card in the equation, LaDarius Perkins. The redshirt freshman tailback finished the game with 319 yards and two touchdowns helping MSU claim a 31-23 victory.
"The Ole Miss game was a big rivalry game for us," Perkins said. "It seems like they were trying to focus on Vick (Ballard) and (Chris) Relf) and I exploded on them. Vick got it going a little bit and scored a touchdown but I guess they weren't really looking at me that much and I showed them what I can do. I really have to give the credit to my o-line because they did a great job. We all just executed our plays like we were supposed to."
During that game Perkins carried 13 times for 98 yards and hauled in three passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns on offense. He also added four kickoff returns for 65 yards and a punt return for 16 yards.
