Mississippi State will usher in year two of the Dan Mullen era today as the Bulldogs welcome Memphis to town to get the 2010 season underway.
The Bulldogs finished six-inches shy of going bowling last year and hope to get off to a successful start at 6 p.m. so their postseason aspirations can be realized.
Today will be the 43rd meeting between the two programs with MSU holding a 31-11 edge in the series. The Bulldogs have won the last 10 meetings in the series and hold a 14-4 advantage in Starkville.
The last time out, State walked away with a 35-27 victory at Davis Wade Stadium for homecoming in 2003. The Bulldogs got two touchdown performances from quarterback Kevin Fant and running back Nick Turner as well as a 100-yard kickoff return from Fred Reid to help carry them to victory.
Mississippi State finished 2009 with a 5-7 record averaging 25.6 points and 371.9 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs led the Southeastern Conference with 227.6 yards rushing per game and added 144.3 yards through the air last season.
