It is clear that Gus is going the JC route.  What does that say to the current players?

I think it sends a message that AU no longer wants to develop you.  Look for mass exits to continue.

Are you serious? He has signed what two or three JC guys and looking at a couple of others but that is ending a message? Didn't uat sign some JC guys the last couple of years? Did that send the same message? Maybe he feels that a team that went 3-9 may need some immediate help at certain positions.  He has a staff that has some good teachers on it and he sends a message that AU doesn't want to develop players. Give me a fvcking break.

I will admit I do not follow this too much so I am repeating what I have heard from barners and bammers on this subject.  I am told that the number will be at least 7 JC's but could be as high as 10.

Yes, most programs do take a few each year.  Some are players that originally signed and could not qualify but taking as many as 10 is way out of the ordinary.  If you take a JC that generally means you think he can play right away and help.

My point is if you take 10 that is potentially 10 positions that are not available to players on your current roster.  I think that sends a message that I expressed before.  JMO.

I promise you it will not be 10. It will be 4 or 5 at most. Two have signed already, an Ol and RB.And one is committed, a safety. And likely one or two DL will get offered.

Your math is probably right?  We will see.  What is your opinion on taking JC's?

I say never take them.  They never pan out.  Look at some of the bums we've both had over the years: Cam Newton, Nick Fairley, Rudi Johnson, Terrence Cody, Jesse Williams, etc.  What a waste of scholarships our two schools made with these guys????

Here's a quote from some coach you may have heard of before and his thoughts on JUCO players: "I think that first of all you're getting a guy that's a little bit more mature and has played a little better level of competition." - Nick Saban

Not sure why you would use a quote from a person you trash 24/7 but you are missing the point.

Clearly if you use morphin correctly it is a very effective pain killer.  Abuse it and it screws you up for life.

Taking a few here and there to plug a leak makes since.  Taking a bunch to compete for a position will ruin a program.

I don't really like the practice of taking JC guys but sometimes it is necessary. I think Gus is looking for immediate help at postions that were in a sense weak last year,  DL and secondary. The running back I think is just for depth purposes.I think Gus is anticipating some departures after off season conditioning starts. I expect it to be very tough this year. I think the last staff had voluntary off season workouts and it showed with the performance on the field. I think Gus is going to find who really wants to be here.

Please show me where I have "trashed" your hero "24/7"!!  Defensive much???  I was using your favorite coach to counter your point.  Of course you don't build a whole team of JUCOs, but as you've pointed out on another thread...Foster may have trouble qualifying.  The kid's a great athlete.  If he has to go the JUCO route, should schools stay away from him after he pulls his grades up?  That's just ridiculous to even consider.

because that position, more than any other, (save quarterback) is where we are hurting the most. We had like 7 or 8 scholarship linebackers last year.

That is embarrassing for a program such as Auburn. Granted we are moving to a 4-2-5 but still.

Exacly,  Westerman left the team so the JC OG was a big need.    DL's are always a need for depth.   "Message sending"
is not an issue.  "Message Sent" is buckle down or lose your job.

I think the message he is sending is "develop or you won't play" and it's the right message. Competition breeds excellence and clearly Auburn needs a quick infusion of players who can make a difference. I wouldn't go too heavy on JC's either but if you have a real need and believe a guy can contribute early, you should pull the trigger.

You have to clean out the rotten wood, use temporary supports to hold it up and together, then rebuild with quality materials in oder to rebuild a damaged house.

I knew about the QB but just read about King.  Were those two in your 4 or 5?

What is the total now and do you still feel like it will be just 4 or 5 or do you think my 10 might be in play?

I said 4 or 5 and I think that is 5. Marshall kind of surprised me but he can project to offense or defense depending on whether the staff wants to RS Jeremy Johnson. But I will be surprised if JJ wants to RS.

Gus will build the program with high school players long term but this is the first year - so be it...getting QB Nick Marshall who passed for 3,000 yards + and ran for a thou more (not to mention 40 or so total touchdowns) just gave Gus what he needs...when's kick-off?
