We all know how this movie is going to end.
Does GC pull offer or wait and dismiss him next summer?

He walked out of practice and was arrested for jumping a fence to get into a pool. He is fine in my book. I want out DL to have attitudes. WDE! Weagle weagle!!

He was arrested for throwing objects at a police officer while his mom was getting a traffic ticket also.  He got a deferred sentence which means the pool incident might bring that back into play.  There is a pattern of behavior that gets overlooked by most schools because he is such a talent. Sad.

Having a tough FOOTBALL attitude is one thing. Having a criminal/thug attitude is different.

Yea well your coaches allowed Courtney Upshaw to pound his girlfriend and not miss a game, so who really gives a dump what you say? So now he threw objects at a cop? The story was that he was yelling about a traffic stop or something. What did he allegedly throw?

The story (s) I read said "objects".  Not sure what that means.  The point is there is a clear pattern of crap from this kid.  Just like Pike.  You guys defended him from the beginning to the end and once GC dumped him then you got on board. ( See previous thread "Pike" on this site).  You try to deflect the obvious by bringing up CU.  CU had no pattern of breaking the law or misconduct.  His girlfriend recanted.  He was a model citizen since then.  I am sure you could find some other examples during the Shula erra  that might be a better analogy but CU is not it.

A couple incidents which are meaningless and have no victims, vs a grown man hitting a girl? Abuse victims often recant beatings. Meaningless. I am defending Liner to you because you all blindly defend everything negative out of your place. This is the defend and deflect forum, didnt you get the memo?

Maybe Liner has issues, maybe not. I really dont care as long as he turns SEC QBs like McNoodle and Anne Murry into rag dolls like Nicholas Fairley.

No way you believe that.  You are better than this.

He was also cursing a female police officer when he was arrested.  He probably deserved to be arrested.  After Pike's bad attitude, I have misgivings about Liner.

Typical thug loving barner.
8/19 12:07 AM | IP: Logged
He definitely needs to be watched out for, but again, you have/had players all over your team with arrests for drugs, abuse, etc slamming a female cop against her car, and nobody seems to care.So why should we care that Liner left practice because he was pissed about something or got arrested for defending his mother in a traffic stop or hopped a fence to take a dip in community pool? Really, the yelling at the cop issue is the only one that bothers me in the least.

I know Dee, and he is not a thug. ZERO of you know him and zero of you know what took place with the ticket issue to his mom. He will be just fine. STFU! You know ZERO turds!

So "just win....WDE" then?

Oops.

Fairley was a great example on your part. If you're really wanting your DL's to have that attitude, as you mentioned above, I think you got your wish.

The bottom line is that when you are trying to rebuild a program you get away from your model that includes talent and character and focus just on talent.  Your a coach making millions and the only way it continues is if you win.  Therefore you take a chance on one kid.....then another....then another.  Before you know it you have a stack of questionable kids because you are doing what you feel is necessary to try and get back on top.  One by one they get chance after chance and blow it and make the school look awful.  Look at Neb.  They have taken four kids of late that blew their chances at other major schools. Bo is on the hot seat and has to win.  Neb is better than this but he is trying to survive.   Right now there are only a handful of schools that when a questionable kid comes along the kid needs THAT school more than the school needs them.

SP, i see you are as delusional on this board as you are on other boards. Your little bammer coach would take a committment from DEE in a second and you bammers would think that was great. so you bammers need to quit being delusional, wait, that is what makes you a bammer.

From a talent standpoint, I don't think there is any doubt that we'd love to have him. From the standpoint of baggage, think again. Any kid can make a mistake, that's not the issue, it's the succession of mistakes that causes me concern.

I don't wish the kid anything but the best. I would have a VERY hard time not pulling for these kids regardless of who they play for. Even a guy like Pike, who sort of went on the offensive about my alma matre in an entirely ridiculous manner, I feel bad for him and I hope he somehow lands on his feet.

Each program has to decide where they draw the line.  The article about this in the Bham news ( one opinion) that AU should withdraw the scholly for the sake of all future high school stars that quit on their teams I think is stupid.  There is only one reason for AU to pull the scholly and that is if AU thinks it is best for AU.

Well said.

I don't know the circumstances of why he quit (I've heard two opposing rumors) but the only thing that would bother me about that part was the quitting part itself. Just like winning and losing, quitting can become a habit even if you think you had good cause to do so.
8/23 10:23 PM | IP: Logged

No idea what he did, don't really care.  I just hate to see a kid risk throwing a promising future away.  But I do find the "defending his mother in a traffic stop" interesting.  What exactly did she need defending from?  From getting a ticket for running a stop sign, speeding, how does someone need defending during a traffic stop?  God knows I been stopped more times than I care to count and not once did I need someone to step up and defend me.  Cop has never drew a gun on me, never threatened me with a baton, never did anything threatening, except on my wallet for the fine I was about to pay.  So why would he feel the need to defend his mother during a traffic stop?

I laugh at bammers who claim their midget coach wouldnt take Liner considering bammer has had 15 players arrested under the midge and 13 of those players received exactly zero punishment. Brandon Deadrick was arrested for 3 crimes at the same time that were as serious or more serious as anything Dee Liner has ever done and he wasnt suspended for 1 game or 1 even 1 play for that arrest by the midge

When bammer morons like you come over on an Auburn board and start trolling, flaming, and running mouth your mouth, it is hardly shocking that someone would bring up your own discipline problems, expecially when your own coach is the biggest joke in the world in the category and basically wouldnt do anything to punish the thugs and criminals on his own team short of them commiting murder, rape, armed robbery, or some similar crime

That stupid azz article about dee said AU should pull offer and in the same breath said that other D1s would offer in a heartbeat but CGC needed to dot it to support high school coaches, bla, bla, bla...

That was just...well dumb. Dee doesn't seem like a thug. He just seems like an immature kid to me. He is probably one of those kids that needs the team more than the team needs him. I hope the coach finds a way to punish the kid, but also help guide him. Getting away from home and in a college atmosphere would probably do a lot of good for him.

I think DL is going through a bunch of unnecessary bullshit that no 17 year old kid should have deal with. The adults around this kid should think about what is best for the kid instead of their own personal agenda. I don't know why I say that as that has never been the case for a lot of these kids.

Yes, I really dont care if Liner was suspended form his HS team. It sounds like it was meaningless so who cares? If he comes to AU and does well on and off the field, great, if he gets suspended thats on him and it doesn't effect my life. Im sure it will be dealt with internally and we will win a NC while hes here. WARDAMNEAGLE!

What you say makes since except recruiting is like a chess game.  Your coaches can only put their energy towards so many players.  You work hard to get a commit from a 5 star who has some baggage and you lose out on a 4 star at the same position that has no baggage.  These kids look and see who is going where.  Then the 5 star either flips or gets arrested or does not work out then you have a gap because the 4 star has gone somewhere else.

Here is another thread that after looking back makes posters look silly.  As you recall at the end of the Mo. game a player of ours, Fanning, went over board and body slammed a running back.  Got a 15 yard penality I think.  Saban never said a word publicly but it is now well known that Fanning had to write apology letters to all the Mo. coaches, to the player, and to his own parents.  He also was suspended for one game without any annoucement.  Asked at the presser Saban only would say that Fanning would practice this week.

I like handling things behind closed doors. I do not need to see how sausage is made.

Behind door apology letters are great but the suspension what the public sees and it is where the rubber meets the road.   Take a top player and suspend him from top match ups or even boot him off the team and it will leave a mark.  Just ask Auburn.

Well my point was there are a lot of ways to parent your children.  For a long time you guys have made strong accusations that Saban does nothing to punish players that get out of line.  This was just one example of something that leaked out.  Not sure how many others were handled in similar fashion that we never heard of.  As an UA fan I am comfortable with the methods we have have in place and for the most part the results on and off the field speak for themselves.
