Dawgs lend helping hand
Some of the Athens Area's underprivileged children received a helping hand from Coach Dennis Felton and the Georgia basketball team Saturday as the Bulldogs held their second annual "Gargantuan Christmas Party" at the team's training facility.
Held in conjunction with the Athens Boys & Girls Club, the party featured Felton and Bulldogs handing out thousands of dollars worth of toys and other Christmas gifts to the youngsters in attendance.
"The Georgia basketball family was thrilled to be spreading the Christmas spirit to so many of these beautiful young children," Felton said. "Our players need to know how very blessed they are to be student-athletes at Georgia, and this was a way we can give to those that aren't so fortunate."
All of the Christmas presents were donated by Felton himself. Other contributions came courtesy of Athens-area Wal-Mart stores, the Georgia basketball Tip-Off Club and Jim Schrull of Just Right Auto Sales.
Every player participated in the two-hour party, which also included refreshments and even a visit from perhaps the tallest Santa Claus anybody has ever seen in 6-foot-10 freshman forward Trey Thompkins.
Santa-Thompkins and the rest of his elves return to action on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Wofford at 2 p.m.
