Tommy Tuberville 10-year tenure at Auburn has come to an end. Four days after the worst loss in his AU career, a 36-0 thrashing at Alabama, Tuberville is out as Auburn's coach, AuburnSports.com has confirmed. A team meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Central, and an official announcement is expected later this evening. It has not been determined if Tuberville was fired or negotiated a buyout. According to the terms of his contract, Tuberville is set to receive a $6 million buyout if he is fired. He would receive $3 million within 30 days of his termination and another $3 million in one year. Even with his 5-7 record in 2008, Tuberville finishes as one of Auburn's most successful coaches. His 85 wins rank fourth in AU history behind only Shug Jordan (176), Mike Donahue (99) and Pat Dye (99). Tuberville's best season came in 2004 when he led the Tigers to a 13-0 record and SEC Championship, his only one in 14 years of coaching in the SEC at Ole Miss and Auburn. Auburn finished No. 2 in 2004 after No. 1 USC beat then-No. 2 Oklahoma in the BCS Championship game. Tuberville won the SEC West title in 2000, falling 28-6 to Florida in the SEC Championship game, and won SEC West co-titles in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
