Record Day For Massaquoi
Senior Mohamed Massaquoi tied a school record with 3 TD catches as he had a career-high 11 receptions for 180 yards. (The other Bulldogs to do it
Terrence Edwards vs. Kentucky-2002; Don Potterfield vs. Auburn-1963; George Poschner vs. Florida-1942). He had his fifth career game of more than 100 yards receiving including his fourth this year (UT-103; UF-112; UK-191). At the half, he had 114 yards on 6 catches. His TD catches covered 3, 10 and 49 yards. He now has 8 TDs this season and 16 overall. He has caught at least one pass in 33 straight games. In his career versus Tech, he had 29 catches for 371 yards and 5 TDs. Massaquoi's 11 catches ranks fourth best by a Bulldog, tying Damien Gary who had 11 for 126 yards vs. Tech in 2000.
Record Day For Stafford
Junior QB Matthew Stafford (24-for-39 for career-high 407 yards, career-high and school-record tying 5 TD passes). At the half, he was 15-for-22 for 271 yards with 4 TDs. Also, D.J. Shockley (Boise State in 2005) and David Greene (LSU in 2004) had 5 TD passes in a game.
Curran Goes Over Century Mark In Tackles
With a team-leading 11 tackles today, sophomore linebacker Rennie Curran ranks among the SEC leaders now with 109 for the year. He is the first Bulldog to go over 100+ tackles in a season since safety Thomas Davis led the 2003 team with 138. It was Curran's 6th game with at least 10+ tackles.
Sophomore Knowshon Moreno finished 94 yards rushing on 17 carries plus had four catches for a career-high 74 yards. He had a 32-yard scamper for a TD on 4th and 1 to pull Georgia within three at 38-35 with 10:23 left in the contest. .
Points off Turnovers
Georgia got no points off an INT as the first half ended (Reshad Jones off Josh Nesbitt). Georgia Tech got 13 points off two Bulldog miscues. Tech got six points off an interception return for a TD (35-yarder by Morgan Burnett off Matthew Stafford). It was the first INT return for a TD against the Bulldogs since the 2007 Florida game (Wondy Pierre-Louis 25 yards). After the INT today, Georgia responded with an 8-play, 75-yard TD drive capped by a 10-yard TD pass from Stafford to Mohamed Massaquoi for a 14-6 lead. Following a Richard Samuel fumble on a kickoff return, Tech's Jonathan Dwyer's 23-yard rush for a TD gave Tech their first lead 35-28 with 7
55 in the third quarter.
Option Defense/Passing Stats
Georgia surrendered 409 yards rushing, the most allowed since Vanderbilt collected 415 yards in 1994. Tech completed just one pass, going 1-for-6 for 19 yards. It was the lowest number of completions and yards by a Bulldog opponent since 1992 when Cal State Fullerton had zero yards passing, going 0-for-4 that day.
Rare Non-Conference Loss
Georgia lost for just the third time to a non-conference foe under Mark Richt and the first time to Tech. The Bulldogs are now 33-3 against teams from outside the SEC and 23-1 at home under Richt. Before today, the last non-conference loss at home was to Tech in 2000 when #18 Tech beat #19 Georgia 27-15. It was Tech's last win over Georgia until today as Richt is now 7-1 against them. The other two non-SEC losses came in bowl games (Boston College in 2001 Music City; West Virginia 38-35, 2006 Nokia Sugar).
Another Bulldog Gets A TD
Senior Tripp Chandler became the 18th different Georgia player to score a TD this season when he caught a 1-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to make it 7-0. It capped a 66-yard drive on eight plays that took 3
20. Georgia and Miami led the nation with 18 players with a TD. It was Chandler's first TD since a 22-yard catch versus Troy in 2007.
