March 3, 2008Kevin Rogers (Baylor) and Brandon Rush (Kansas) along with Michael Beasley (Kansas State) have been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of Feb. 25 - March 2 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the second honor this season for Rogers and first for Rush, while Beasley captures a weekly award for a record-tying 10th time (two player, eight rookie).

Rogers averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds as the Bears won both games last week. The junior forward began with a 24-point, 11-rebound effort in a 68-57 victory at Colorado. He followed that performance with 12 points and 12 boards in a 100-89 tally over Missouri. In two games, he shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field and made 10-of-12 (.833) from the free throw line. He has 12 double-doubles this year, including each of his last five outings. This marks the fourth player honor for a Baylor athlete in 2007-08, the most in one year in Big 12 history and more than half of the all-time total of player awards (7) for BU entering this season.

Rush led the Jayhawks into a tie for first in the Big 12 as the Jayhawks won at Iowa State (75-64) and defeated Kansas State (88-74). The junior guard recorded 18.0 points per game in two contests, with averages of 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Rush had a season-high 21 points versus Kansas State, including 13 in the first half as KU built a 12-point halftime advantage. He shot 40.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor, including 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from 3-point range. This is the fourth career weekly honor for Rush (one player, three rookie), who leads the team in scoring during Big 12 play with 14.2 points per game this season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Michael Beasley, Kansas State, F, Fr., 6-10, 235, Washington, D.C./Notre Dame Prep [Mass.]
Beasley wins a Big 12 weekly honor for the 10th time, tying the Big 12 record (Kevin Durant, Texas, 2006-07). Beasley averaged 34.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in two outings. The freshman forward shot 47.7 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from 3-point distance in two contests, while connecting on 23-of-27 (.857) from the free throw line. Against Kansas, he tied the Big 12 record for double-doubles in a season (25) with 39 points and 11 boards. Beasley ranks third nationally in scoring (26.7 ppg) and first in rebounding (12.6). He leads the nation in double-doubles, 40-point games (3), 30-point games (12) and 20-point, 10-rebound (20) performances.
