December 2, 2004With just a few practices under his belt with the basketball team, Greg Paulus took to the court on Wednesday night for Christian Brothers Academy and does what he does best - win.
Less than a week removed from claiming New York's class AA football state championship and the Most Outstanding Player award, Paulus scored a team high 23 points and dished out 12 assists in a 79-54 win over Syracuse-Minoa.
The point guard was also supposed to play in front of Coach Mike Krzyzewski but inclement weather delayed the Duke head coach from traveling north. He was also scheduled to see shooting guard signee Marty Pocius in action as well.
Paulus, who owns nearly every football record, upped his career basketball scoring total to 1,884 points. That ranks fourth place all-time.
Considering Paulus has yet to regain his "basketball legs" the double-double was a nice game in the opener.
"This was a great first outing," CBA coach Buddy Wleklinski told the Syracuse Post-Standard. "Our six guys who were on the football team still are not anywhere near being in good shape to play basketball. They're still black and blue from football, but they got their (eight) pre-season practices taken care of and they'll improve steadily."
