AUBURN | The Auburn women's basketball utilized 33 points from 26 Western Kentucky turnovers and grabbed 20 steals en route to an 84-66 win Sunday at Auburn Arena in the second round of the WNIT.
"Much credit to my young ladies," Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "They really had to hang in there, and they really had to fight. Western Kentucky was a team that kept coming at us. They played extremely hard. They hit a lot of shots at crucial times, but kudos to our team for just continuing to stay in there and fight hard."
Hasina Muhammad posted a career high 27 points with nine rebounds and three steals, while Tyrese Tanner had her second-consecutive 20-point game with 24 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals. Freshman Chadarryl Clay added 10 points and five rebounds.
Alexis Govan led Western Kentucky with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Chastity Gooch added 19 points for the Hilltoppers, while Bianca McGee notched 16 points on 5-of-14 from the field with all five field goals coming from beyond the arc.
Auburn will host Tulane at Auburn Arena in the third round of the WNIT Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Auburn Arena. The Green Wave defeated Arkansas, 60-48, Sunday in Fayetteville, Ark., to advance to the third round.
