October 29, 2012Pearland Dawson RB James White was the second running back to commit to Texas A&M for the 2013 recruiting class, but when the first back to commit made a change, the Aggies didn't look to replace him. On Friday night, White put in a performance that should justify A&M's faith in him.
White carried the ball 35 times for 203 yards and four touchdowns as the 8-0 Eagles beat Friendswood 42-33. White now 1,279 yards on 160 carries (7.99 YPC) and 17 touchdowns on the ground; he also has a receiving touchdown.
The first member of the 2013 recruiting class, Houston St. Pius X QB Kohl Stewart, also had a big night. Stewart was 18 of 26 for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air and ran for two more in a 63-13 win over Beaumont Kelly Catholic.
The two Aggie commits from Manvel had an easy Friday night as the Mavericks destroyed Pasadena Rayburn 49-3. Wideout Kyrion Parker wasn't sure of his stats at first, but got back to us.
"I had three catches for 42 yards and a two-point conversion," he said.
Corner Tavares Garner didn't have to look.
"They didn't throw the ball my way once," he said. "I got one tackle."
Alief Taylor safety Jonathan Wiggins was a lot more busy, with 11 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a pass breakup in a 35-7 win over Aldine.
Rosenberg Terry was shocked by Richmond Foster 37-26, but Terry's Victor Davis took away a good part of the field anyway.
"I had two pass breakups and a tackle," said the 2013 commit, who has been playing a lot of corner for Terry instead of safety, where A&M expects him to play. "Then they stopped throwing my way."
Teammate Derrick Griffin had 4 catches for 42 yards, but didn't score. For the season, Griffin has 29 catches for 451 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Southlake Carroll QB Kenny Hill led his team to a 7-1 mark with a 56-7 pasting of Keller. Hill was 17-21 for 283 yards and 2 TDs through the air and ran for 90 yards and three scores on 12 carries.
Mansfield Timberview and talented 2014 corner Edward Paris were able to keep one Texas A&M receiver commit in check, but the other may have been the difference in Cedar Hill's 21-14 win. Laquvionte Gonzalez was limited to 25 yards rushing on 7 carries and 3 yards on two catches, but Quincy Adeboyejo had a much bigger night.
"I had nine catches for 96 yards and an interception on defense," he told us.
Dallas Skyline moved to 7-1 on the year after whipping Richardson 49-20, and DT Kerrick Huggins helped shut down the Richardson offense. The Aggie commit had five tackles and a sack on the night and helped make life easy for teammate and 2014 commit CB Cedric Collins.
"They only threw my way once, and that was incomplete," he told us.
Little-Cypress Mauriceville ATH Alex Sezer 111 yards and three touchdowns as his team moved to 4-4 with a 37-6 win over Lumberton.
In Louisiana, Port Allen LB Darian Claiborne made it sound like he had a routine evening in a 20-16 win over E.D. White.
"I'm not sure how I did," he said. "I'll have to go check."
As it turns out, his night was anything but routine. Claiborne was 7-14 passing for 76 yards and a TD, carried the ball 20 times for 150 yards and two scores and had 5 tackles -- 2 for loss == and interception.
In New Orleans, Edna Karr CB Noel Ellis became an offensive weapon in a 35-8 win over McDonogh 35. Ellis caught his first three passes of the year for 46 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball three times for another 34 yards.
