October 1, 2012EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior dual-threat quarterback and wide receiver Kain Colter was recognized as Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the week Monday after he finished with 292 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, helping Northwestern to a victory over Indiana on Saturday and a 5-0 start to the season.
Colter carried the Wildcat offense and scored on touchdown runs of eight, eight, 15 and 22 yards, scoring once for the 'Cats in each quarter.
The junior from Denver, Colo., saw time at wide receiver for the first time this season but scored all four touchdowns on the ground, rushing for a career-best 164 yards on 14 carries. He also caught nine passes for 131 yards as part of Northwestern's school-record 704 yards of total offense, topping the previous record of 674 yards earned in a victory against Wisconsin on Oct. 8, 2005.
This week marks Colter's second honor as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, which he shares with Nebraska junior quarterback Taylor Martinez. Colter is the NU's first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week this season and last garnered the award following the Wildcats' road win over Nebraska in 2011.
No. 24/22 Northwestern (5-0) continues Big Ten play when it travels to Beaver Stadium to take on Penn State this weekend (11 a.m. CT, ESPN).
