June 20, 2012A good month has turned into a truly big-time month for Davidson (N.C.) rising junior quarterback Will Grier.
Grier has already picked up three scholarship offers this month on camp visits to Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Florida, and on Tuesday, the 6-3, 170-pounder led Davidson Day School to victory in the annual Carolina Panthers 7-on-7 tournament at Bank of America Stadium.
In the championship game, Grier guided Davidson Day past Charlotte-area powerhouse Mallard Creek, which featured, among others, Rivals 250 standouts Marquez North and Brian Walker, as well as 2013 prospect Jorian Jordan.
"It meant a lot to beat such a great team and program (as Mallard Creek)," said Grier Tuesday evening, shortly after the triumph. "It gave our guys confidence that will hopefully carry over into the season."
"It was also good to let the area know that Davidson Day can play some football," he added.
Grier has rapidly emerged as one of North Carolina's top 2014 quarterback prospects, as he was impressive during the first weekend of UNC's football camp season.
He picked up a scholarship offer from offensive coordinator Blake Anderson and seems to be developing a good rapport with him.
"It was awesome (to get the offer from UNC). Carolina is an awesome school and you get an awesome education. To get an offer from a school like that, it's just amazing. It's like a dream come true. It was just awesome to get up there and see some more of the campus," he said.
Grier is in no rush to make a college decision, so Anderson and the Tar Heels have plenty of time to try and continue making an impression on him.
