Finally, Purdue has its first Big Ten Player-of-the-Week Award, its first of the season.
Boilermaker junior big man JaJuan Johnson earned the award Monday for his efforts in Purdue's wins at Illinois and over Michigan.
In Champaign, he scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Purdue snapped a three-game losing streak with a key road win. Against Michigan, he scored 21 points and collected a team-high-tying seven rebounds.
Surprisingly for a team that's been as successful as Purdue has the past two seasons, this is its first Player-of-the-Week accolade since Robbie Hummel was honored just before Christmas of 2008.
For the season, Johnson averages 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds. He is the Big Ten's leading offensive rebounder.
