Countdown to Camp: Few questions at corner
Fall camp opens up in 18 days. Over the next couple of weeks, PowerMizzou.com will continue to get Tiger fans completely prepped for the biggest season in school history. Today, we continue our in-depth breakdowns of the fall situation at every position on the field. We move on to the cornerbacks.
The Starters: Carl Gettis came out of nowhere to seize the starting job on one side as a true freshman last year. Castine Bridges outplayed Darnell Terrell over the second half of 2007 to grab the other starting spot. Both players had good springs and both seem secure in their spots as starters.
Projected Backups: There are three guys competing for playing time here. Kevin Rutland looked to be the third corner at the end of spring ball. Tremane Vaughns and Trey Hobson should both see some action this season, but they will engage in what may be one of camp's better battles for a backup job. At this point, those three names seem to have the Tigers in pretty good shape at corner.
By the Numbers: 2. Total number of interceptions by Tiger cornerbacks last season (Gettis and Bridges had one each). Considering how much teams threw against the Tigers, that number should go up. However, it's also skewed by the fact that Mizzou safeties combined to pick off 13 passes.
