Tech coming after Houston DT
Welcome to the party DeAnthony Sims. The Houston (Texas) Westbury defensive tackle has the size to be a Division I prospect, and one Big 12 school may have put itself in prime position to land him by offering first.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound tackle has the quickness and feet to be an offensive coordinator's worst nightmare.
"Texas Tech called him Saturday and offered," Westbury coach Keeath McGee said. "We should get the paperwork today. He can play at the Division I level and other schools are going to wish that they offered him early."
Sims will be unofficially visiting Texas Tech this month and could pull the trigger during his stay.
"I really think he will commit to Texas Tech," McGee said. "He's an extremely loyal kid and I know what he's thinking. Tech came in and offered, and took a chance on him before anyone else. He's just that kind of kid."
While Sims had a decent junior season, he's had very little formal football coaching.
"When we got here, he was pretty weak," McGee said. "He's got tremendously stronger and has made great strides over the past year. Tech saw his film and really likes how he moves. It's all upside and projecting right now. Is he a dominant tackle right now? Probably not, but he could be an all-world defensive tackle in a few years. I've seen it happen and he's got that type of potential."
