Northwestern still in hunt for Martin
There's no question that Scott Martin would be a ground-breaking recruit for Northwestern.
The 6-foot-8 forward out of Valparaiso (IN) is rated as a four-star player by Rivals and the Wildcats have yet to land a four-star player under Bill Carmody, who has been the coach since 2000-01. (Center Michael Thompson was a four-star high school prospect but he transferred to Northwestern after playing two seasons at Duke.)
Martin also ranks 91st in the Rivals 150 for the Class of 2007 - 25th among all forwards - and he already has offers from 11 schools, including Big Ten heavyweights Indiana and Michigan.
But while Martin does not fit the profile of a typical Northwestern recruit, the Wildcats are still among his top six, along with Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Xavier and his hometown Valparaiso Crusaders. And in his mind, all six are in a dead heat at this point in the recruiting process.
