Three-star Mack names a favorite
Big, talented and raw, Ryan Mack out of Memphis (Tenn.) Wooddale is an intriguing prospect. This spring and summer the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder has gone from a relative unknown to one of the hottest prospects in the state and the region. After another recent strong camp performance, Mack has picked up another offer and has named a leader.
"I went to Louisville Tuesday for their camp," Mack said. "Coach said that they really liked me and told my coach they wanted to offer me. They offered afterwards when they called my coach and my coach told me."
The interest was mutual. The big offensive tackle is now up to six offers but the Louisville one has jumped to the front of the pack.
"I was looking at them before and then when I got the offer they moved up to my first choice because I can potentially play as a freshman up there," he said. "I like the coaches. The O-line coach, he really was working me and seemed like a good coach that can coach me up and get me to the next level in the NFL."
Louisville jumped to the front for Mack despite extending an offer just a few days after in-state rival Kentucky.
"The Kentucky offer surprised me because they really just weren't talking to me," he said. "That one just popped up out of the blue."
Mack's final camp of the summer will be at Tennessee in July but at this point the Volunteers have some ground to make up even if they were to extend an offer. In fact, Mack has already considered committing to Louisville, with one school holding him up.
"I like Tennessee," he said. "I don't have a lot of interest in them but they're ok. I'm thinking about committing [to Louisville]. I'm thinking of next week committing but I don't know. I'll probably wait until the season and see what happens with other offers. I'm still waiting on Ole Miss."
Another possibility for Mack is the surging hometown program of Memphis.
"Memphis, I keep them in because it's my hometown team but Louisville would be my first right now."
