Bedlam Redemption for OSU today?
A few weeks ago, Oklahoma State traveled down to Norman and laid an egg.
In a game that was theirs to lose, the Cowboys lost it, as Oklahoma pulled out a 62-57 win in front of an ESPN Big Monday audience.
But today, the Pokes get a shot at redemption. And it too will be televised on ESPN at 1 p.m. Central Time. Aside from all the usual Bedlam madness that comes with a game against the Sooners (13-10 overall, 4-5 Big 12), this is also a save situation for OSU. As in, "OSU needs to win this game to save its season." Sure, that could be overstating it a tad, but the picture is pretty clear for the Cowboys (16-7, 4-5). Lose this one and there just aren't that many chances left to right the ship.
So, this is a big game for the Pokes, who are losers of three straight games. They've had a week off to absorb the loss to Texas Tech last Saturday and prepare for the Sooners, who are too coming off a loss to the Red Raiders on Tuesday.
OU comes to Orange Country losers of four of its last six games. Overall on the road this season, the Sooners are an abysmal 1-6 in true road contests. Of course there is the emotion of this game and that can change things around, but it's hard to expect the Sooners to be much better inside Gallagher-Iba Arena this afternoon. They're led on the court by Willie Warren, who is putting up 16.2 points per game. Tommy Mason-Griffin follows with 13.0 ppg, while Tony Crocker is averaging 11.8 a game plus about 6.6 rebounds per game.
With an RPI rating of 37, the Cowboys are in good position there, so long as they get back on the winning track. A four-game losing streak at this point in the season would not be beneficial to OSU's postseason hopes. As it stands now, OSU has a rough slate ahead, as a four-game stretch of Baylor, Texas, Kansas and Texas A&M looms large starting next weekend. That makes today's game important, as well as picking up a road win at Iowa State on Wednesday. Those two games, plus the season finale at home against Nebraska, are very important to get as wins.
The postseason begins today for the Pokes.
