|Spring Review: Like last fall, during practice he showed that he has a booming leg, but his accuracy isn't the greatest. Neither he or fellow place kicker Jonathan Phillips were great (when it comes to accuracy), but neither were terrible either. |
Fall Projection: To get the most often asked question out of the way first, the reason kickers have more range in high school is first they have a tee, but just as importantly, they have their own set of footballs that they can put fill to the pressure that is optimal for kickers. On the college level, they are forced to use the same football's as the rest of the team, and the air pressure is set lower in order to aid the quarterbacks in the passing game. Now on to the fall projection for Sturgis - with Phillips back, it looks like another year of handling kickoff duty, but, if the situation is right, perhaps Meyer will give him a shot at a long field goal attempt?
