Insider Report: Spurlock stepping up
For the first time in recent memory there will be few concerns over Florida State's offensive line. In fact, several websites and preseason magazines, including Athlon, have tabbed Rick Trickett's squad as tops in the ACC.
That's a far cry from a couple years ago when the unit was in disarray. Not only was there a dearth of talent, there was very little depth. In fact, when Rick Trickett took over coaching the line in 2007 he was forced to go with walk-on players on the first team unit in spring practice.
In just two years, the U.S. Marine Corps veteran has not only drastically upgraded the unit's talent level but doubled its depth. When FSU begins practice this August, there should be 16 scholarship offensive linemen on the roster, and that includes five returning starters.
If not for that improved depth, there might have been a chink in the armor.
