Q&A with Tech verbal commit McCoy
Jacketsonline caught up with Northview High School defensive tackle Denzel McCoy during his spring high school practice. McCoy talked about his level of commitment to Georgia Tech and his goal for the offseason.
What are your current measurables?
"6'4" 273 lbs"
Can you tell us what kind of stuff numbers you push in the weight room?
"I Bench about 340, Squat 525, and Clean 280 lbs."
Have you run the 40 yard dash lately? If so, what was your time?
"Yes Sir, the last time I was timed I ran a 4.8."
Are you still a solid Georgia Tech verbal commit?
"Yes sir, I am not switching."
What other schools are still calling and coming to see you?
"Auburn, UGA, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Maryland, and a lot of coaches are still planning on coming down here."
Have any of the Georgia Tech coaches been out to see you?
"Yes sir, Giff Smith came out to see me today. I was very happy to see him."
What are your plans for this summer?
"I am going to the Georgia Tech camp on the 13th, just want to be down there as much as possible to watch practice, after workouts and after I run, I want to be down there as much as I can."
What parts of your game are you working on going into your senior year?
"I am trying to work on everything I can improve on. I'm just going to take it from there right now to find out what I need to work on. There's always room for improvement, still working hard and trying to find out what I need to get better at."
Do you have any goals before you arrive at Georgia Tech?
I want to weigh about 285, I'll get to the weight they want me at and I want to be able to run a 4.7 or 4.6 forty. I want to get my bench total, squat total, and clean total up. I just want to improve on everything before I get to school.
What are some of your personal and team goals for your senior season at Northview?
"I want to try to get about 80-85 tackles this year, I mean I try to improve my tackles and sacks every year but I think we'll be great as a team this year. We are working really hard and that's a positive. Last year we had some missing links, and this year we've filled those holes and are looking pretty good so far. I think we'll be great next year."
